30 minute colour studies :(

Other than that, my friend Pat and I are doing a sort of experimental character design project. It's basically do anything as long as you design a character. You can see the first part here.

Anyway, this is Steven. Steve for short. He's just your average dinosaur doing the 9 to 5 at a regular accounting firm. Give him your taxes he'll sort them out gladly. Keeping to himself mostly, Steve's the introvert type except when it comes to team athletics. He's quite fanatical about them but too bad they're not as fanatical about him. Steve tries, he really does, to be one of the guys but because of his ability to grow and build muscle almost immediately he can't help but rip up a shirt or shoe when he flexes while working out and unfortunately as the saying goes 'round here, "no shirt, no shoes, no bro fists".

Been watching a lot of Modern Family lately. Gotta say Gloria is one of my favourite characters. Everything about her is so well done and true to her culture too. 

Eugene calls me "Ree". We were talking about buttery things. This was the result.

Concept for that big small project. It's not a zoom in, I just wanted to crop it... 

Studies mostly. Oh yeah. My new favourite things are pitt oil base pencils. I can't get over how amazing they are.

Not sure if you all know about how much I love fish and stupid derpy looking things. Especially stupid derpy looking fish. Practising character designs on the left. Fun amusing drawing on the right.

Anyway I'm gonna be in Vermont for the weekend at Jay Peak for some quality snowboarding time. I think I've bragged about this everywhere now except my blog. Excited!

But guess what's more exciting? Going to California during reading week! Hoping to get at least a few awesome sketches of the wonderful west coast. We're scheduled to see LV, LA, San Fran, and Death Valley! Desert landscapes, mountains, beaches, circuses & shows, trams & trolleys, beautiful houses, cramped architecture, intricate infrastructure, crazy lights & engineering, and Americans!

Sketchbooky sketches

Crazy deadline week is over, and it's Friday. While everyone is out partying, celebrating the end of the madness that was week 5 I sit here at home updating my blog. Party party yes all good and fun, but take heed fellow friends for we are still not in the clear. There is still week 6 and 7 which entail a couple of tests no doubt, a painting assignment, and the up-coming portfolio day.

Anyway,

I got some sketchbook work scanned in.

Remember that "Goals for This Year" post I posted not too long ago? Well in order to reach those goals and to all around get better at something, I devised this sketchbook workout which I cleverly called "The Workout". It lasted for about a week before I started getting sleep deprived. Thinking about revising The Workout and starting it up again this week. Let's see if I can make it to 2 weeks this time.

House I did for Komza's Layout class. We had to do a house on a slope in an hour. He said it was definitely a portfolio piece. I said I could do better. It was in pencil originally. Threw on some greys in Photoshop.

This was me trying to do better. Perhaps when you see it next, it will be all nice and cleaned up and CGed. Just gotta wait for that new computer and or graphics card to roll in my way. ...And/or some student loan/paycheque money. /tummygrumble.

In other news I blew $27 on 2 hard cover books without thinking twice about it today. Oops there goes my food allowance for the next 2 weeks. Also, regrettably, one of the reasons why I'm not celebrating with my friends in Toronto/Richmond Hill tonight. Oh the bitter troubles of a bibliophile.
